Some trash is burned in a controlled process called waste-to-energy incineration. Incinerators, when properly equipped, can convert water into steam to fuel heating systems or generate electricity. Methane gas generated by decomposing garbage at landfills can also be captured and used to generate electricity

The best way to reduce the amount of trash you generate is to be a careful shopper. Don’t buy more than you need, especially if the product can go bad over time.As a consumer, you have purchasing power. As more and more people buy products that are reusable, refillable or concentrated, manufacturers will take notice and produce more of these Earth friendly products.

Carbon cops at HS

Our school has Carbon cops. The Carbon cops check all the classrooms twice a day to see if they have turned off computer sceens,lights and air conditioners. At the end of the week they tell the school which class has been the most energy efficient and they give them a certificate and badge. You see, I was a ex-Carbon cop[Jessica]

Sustainability means to keep the world going.There are many different ways to sustain the earth like walking instead of driving because this will cut down greenhouse gas emissions that the car makes

What is energy?

What is energy?

Energy is something we use everyday in our lifes. We all use it differently for different purposes.Energy can be made in many different ways. There are renewable and non- renewable sources. Some examples of non- renewable sources are coal, oil (petroleum), Natural Gas and Urainium (nuclear). Some examples of renewable sources are Solar, Wind, Hydro, Geothermal, Biomass and Ocean.

Why is energy so important?

This is so important because of Global Warming. Global Warming is when the Earth becomes warmer by the o-zone layer being broken by Greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are made by the burning of non- renewable sources. These are the six Greenhouse gases that are metioned in the Kyoto Protocol; carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, perfluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons, sulphur hexafluoride.
