What's the matter with water?

Group discussions:
Discuss the following facts:
-Water is made up of two parts-hydrogen-2 parts and oxygen-1 part.
-Water covers nearly ¾ of the earth, but the amount that can be used by humans is less then 2%
-The earth will not get any more water; it has about the dame amount of water as when it was formed.
-Over 60 % of the human body is fluid- a person could only live about 3-4 days without drinking water.
-It takes about 50 litres of water to produce one newspaper.
-Millions of microscopic organisms live naturally in waterways. Because some of these can be harmful, water is treated with filters and chemicals before it is piped to homes for domestic use.

Big Issues
-More then one billion people do not have access to safe drinking water
-Most fresh water goes into growing food
-Fresh water animals are disappearing faster then land animals
-Australia is the world’s driest continent but Australians are the highest users of water per person
-Around 70% of the Murray River is diverted for human use.
